"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand." -Woodrow Wilson

Busy, Busy, Busy

One of my favorite things about student housing is the constant change of pace. I love that we have super slow and extremely busy parts of the year. It keeps things interesting. Right now, I am at a practically unreal busy part of the year. Our academic year leases are ending at the end of the month, and we are getting ready to clean and turn apartments. We also are picking up with leasing, doing lots of tours and applications. To add to the busy, we are in a staffing drought. We lost our General Manager, Accountant and Marketing Assistant all in a week. Add these to our still vacant Maintenance Supervisor, and it has turned into a two-woman show starring myself and Andrea. We are working to keep things afloat and to find some lovely people who want to work with us, ASAP!

With all the craziness, I got a promotion and raise. My new title is now Assistant General Manager. This will be a great chance for me to finally really learn the business side of student housing and property management. Just today, I learned how to run credit card payments. I am slowly relearning all the stuff I forgot in my accounting class from over a decade ago.

I have also started fully training for my triathlon in August. I am running a sprint length triathlon, which is a 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike ride and a 5k run. I asked my friend Allina, whose is studying for her personal training certificate, to help me train and she has been a godsend. She pushes me and keeps me motivated. Kevin has also created a website for us to track our training. We are also collecting a little batch of people also training with us, including my brother Matthew whose whole goal is simply to beat me. I bought this really great bike that I love. Next purchase, new running shoes (mine are YEARS old).

Here is our website. I have been really bad at updating it, but I promised Kevin today that I would do better from now on.

Here also is a picture of my ADORABLE nephew. He is quickly approaching two and so awesome. One of his new favorite words is "want". I'm sure you can imagine just how funny this is, especially since he has NO problem expressing exactly how he feels. I am super excited to get to watch him this weekend, during my first real weekend off since the middle of March. Porter time is the best!

Go Tiff! Go! You sound really busy, but I know from experience that you can handle it and amaze everyone. I do hope you get some help soon! And good luck on the triathlon! It sounds like a great adventure!
